Collage of Dr. Jodi-Ann Edwards, Downstate Surgery leadership and trainees at NYSS Fall Forum 2023 High-quality research is required to address the significant implications of facility-level financial disadvantages on patient outcomes.

Their study investigated predictors of mortality in patients with necrotizing soft tissue infection, a fulminant and life-threatening group of soft tissue infections. Their results highlight the impact of facility-level Medicaid burden (payer proportions) and resource limitations on all-cause in-hospital NSTI-related mortality, suggesting that equitable allocation of hospital resources may improve outcomes of the most vulnerable patient populations.
