Dr. BarthelemyThe SUNY Downstate Surgery Department extends its heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Ernest Barthelemy, Chief of the Division of Neurosurgery at SUNY Downstate, on receiving the $50K CREST Pilot Grant Award. Dr. Barthelemy’s research initiative, funded by the CREST Pilot Grant, exemplifies his dedication to promoting equity and addressing health disparities.

With a focus on a historically excluded population in epidemiological research on Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Dr. Barthemely’s work will contribute to scientific equity and provide valuable insights into the challenges faced by these individuals. Additionally, by studying the biopsychosocial-ecological determinants of TBI outcome in marginalized and socially disadvantaged populations with substantial evidence of substandard and inferior outcomes, Dr. Barthelemy has taken significant steps towards promoting health equity.

The Department would like to express its appreciation to CREST and David Christini, Ph.D., Senior Vice President for Research, for their support in fostering innovative research that addresses health inequities. The $50,000 pilot grant award serves as a catalyst for groundbreaking work, enabling the institution to generate crucial preliminary data for future National Institutes of Health (NIH) applications.
