Downstate General Surgery Residency Match 2024

This year's General Surgery Residency Match at SUNY Downstate was highly competitive, with a large number of applications received. After months of interviews, meet-and-greets, and careful deliberation, we are pleased to announce that the Department of Surgery at SUNY Downstate has successfully filled all seven categorical PGY1 General Surgery positions for the upcoming academic year.

Our new residents will join us from prestigious academic institutions, including Case Western, the University of California, San Diego, and our very own SUNY Downstate College of Medicine Medical School. We have recruited outstanding students from Downstate who have left a lasting impression during their rotations, and we are honored to have the opportunity to train them to become exceptional surgeons.

Additionally, our Department has also filled its PGY1 preliminary positions. We are confident that these residents will have a great year filled with knowledge and growth, while they are a part of the Downstate family.  

Downstate Surgery had a successful match this year, and we are thrilled to continue inspiring students to join our surgical training program. To all the new resident doctors, we extend a warm welcome!
