The Department Welcomes New Advanced Practice Providers

The Department of Surgery welcomes the recruitment of Michelle Fried, NP and Yael Goldstein, PA. They will be joining the general surgery and vascular surgery practices, respectively, to help with the expansion of our services to the Brooklyn community.

Ms. Fried will serve as the clinical coordinator for the practices of Drs. Schwartzman, Dresner, Tehrani, and Kirwin. She will also assist in running the Department's weekly wound care clinic. 

Originally from South Florida, Ms. Fried moved to New York over 10 years ago to obtain her nursing and NP degrees at Columbia University. She has since expanded her experience with a diverse patient population, including those suffering from substance abuse to patients in need of long-term homecare. Prior to joining Downstate Health, Ms Fried was the NP Coordinator for the Cystic Fibrosis Center at the Beth Israel Medical Center. After competion of her Advanced Certificate in Family Care for Nurse Practitioners, she has joined the Department of Surgery at Downstate.

Ms. Goldstein graduated as Valedictorian from Touro Physician Assistant Program in 2009. Since graduation, she has been part of the Department of Surgery as manager and APP for the Faculty Practice for over 13 years. With a wealth of experience, she now transitions her role to help with the expansion of Downstate Health's Vascular Surgery practice group.
