Office for Institutional Equity

Welcome to the Office for Institutional Equity

The Office for Institutional Equity (OIE) serves as the central hub for institutionalizing equity practices across the Downstate Health Sciences University and University Hospital at Downstate missions.  OIE supports programs that attract, recruit and train the most talented students, trainees and faculty. Our inclusive programs reach a broad range of identities across race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, language, culture, socioeconomic background, and life experiences.  As a center-wide entity, the OIE works collaboratively across all colleges, schools, and clinical units to foster an inclusive working and learning environment in which all members feel valued and respected.

We support the vision and mission of excellence of SUNY Downstate by:

Fundamental to our continued success, transformation, and growth is the ability to create safe spaces where we respectfully share our voices and collaboratively develop innovative solutions. We will continue to draw upon the expertise and experiences of members at Downstate and the Brooklyn community as we take strategic steps toward advancing health equity at SUNY Downstate.
