Resident Receives Blackstock Award

In recognition of Dr. Jodi-Ann Edwards's indovlvement with various Downstate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives,
she has been selected as one of the 2023 Dale Blackstock awardees. In commemoration
of National Women’s History Month, the Office of Diversity Education and Research
hosted a lecture and award ceremony in memory of Dale Blackstock, MD. He was an internist,
nephrologist, geriatrician, and faculty member at SUNY Downstate College of Medicine.
The newly formed Office of Institutional Equity will continue the tradition of honoring
women from our Downstate community.
As a general surgery resident with the Department of Surgery, Dr. Edwards has published extensively on the DEI initiative and has a passion for studying healthcare disparities and racial and gender under-representation in surgery. She also takes pride in mentoring students from divserse backgrounds.
