Medical Student’s Abstract Selected as Semi-Finalist in AMA Research Challenge

Tobiy SomorinTobi Somorin’s work with the Department of Surgery’s research program (iNSPIRe Initiative) received a top score and was chosen to be in top 10th percentile of research submitted to the American Medical Association’s Research Challenge. The research challenge is the largest national, multi-specialty research conference for medical students, residents, fellows, and international medical graduates to showcase and present research.

Tobi’s work identified profit-based sources of hospital-level resource depletion that could augment health care disparities. He was mentored by David H. Berger, MD, MHCM, Panos Kougias, MD, MSc, and Sherene Sharath, PhD, MPH. Tobi is a third year medical student with a well-developed interest in surgical and health disparities research. He will be applying for surgical residency with a focus on plastic and reconstructive surgery.
