Residents Present at the Columbia University Research Symposium

The work of two residents from the SUNY Downstate Department of Surgery on research development years were accepted for oral presentation at the Columbia University Department of Surgery 2023 Annual Research Symposium.

Under the mentorship of Dr. David Kalfa, Dr. Vincent Reed LaSala (right) presented his research titled “Comparison of Path Materials for Heart Valve Repair Using Ex Vivo Porcine Model.” Under the mentorship of Dr. Giovanni Ferrari, Dr. Erfan Faridmoayer (below) presented his work titled “Serotonin Transporter (SERT) Deficiency Exacerbates Pro-Fibrotic Gene Expression in Mitral Valve.” Both projects were supported by the National Institutes of Health T32 postdoctoral research from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.
