Resident to Present Research at ACS Cancer Conference

ACS Cancer ConferenceThe scholarly work of Dr. Amy Jeng, one of the senior residents at the Department of Surgery, was selected for presentation at the 2023 American College of Surgeons’ Cancer Conference in Atlanta. Under the mentorship of Dr. J. Jaime Alberty from Kings County Hospital, this project investigated features of palpable Ductal Carcinoma in situ (DCIS).

In an institution serving a predominately Black patient population, a high percentage of patients present with palpable DCIS. Compared to screening-detected DCIS, palpable DCIS was found to have a more aggressive genetic phenotype. These findings shed further light on the need for investigation of novel treatment avenues for patients suffering from this particular breast cancer.

The theme of the conference focuses on cancer research, quality improvement, and diversity. The Department of Surgery congratulates Dr. Jeng on the opportunity to showcase her work to an audience of likeminded peers and faculty experts.
