Dr. Maryam Ali Khan Presents at New York Surgical Society
Feb 4, 2025
Department of Surgery resident Dr. Maryam Ali Khan, PGY3, presented at the New York
Surgical Society Fall Scientific Session at The Penn Club.
The abstract by Dr. Khan, Dr. Panos Kougias, and Dr. Sherene Sharath was entitled
“Impact of Hospital Volume on Mortality Risk in Patients with Ruptured Abdominal Aortic
Aneurysms.” It was one of four abstracts selected for podium presentation.
Dr. Khan’s study was one of the largest, nationally representative samples with over
18,000 patients investigating the association between hospital volume and mortality
risk in patients with ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms. The results demonstrated
that low facility-level volume adversely affects outcomes following ruptured abdominal
aortic aneurysms. Dr. Khan concluded the presentation by highlighting the importance
of equipping low volume centers with resources to manage these complex cases and increasing
opportunities for care coordination between high and low volume centers.
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Khan on her impactful presentation.
