The Department of Surgery recently hosted a thought-provoking Grand Rounds presentation by Dr. Charles Brunicardi, Senior Vice President, Dean of the College of Medicine, and Professor of Surgery at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University.

In his talk, “The Leadership Principles of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.”, Dr. Brunicardi explored the timeless leadership values exemplified by Dr. King, emphasizing service, integrity, compassion, and courage as guiding forces in both medicine and life. He reflected on how these principles can inspire physicians to lead with purpose, promote equity, and strengthen the communities they serve.

The session offered a meaningful opportunity for reflection and dialogue on the role of moral leadership in healthcare.
