Dr. Justin Choi to Lead Division of Vascular Surgery

The SUNY Downstate Department of Surgery congratulates Dr. Justin Choi on his appointment as Chief of the Division of Vascular Surgery. A distinguished expert
in vascular surgery, Dr. Choi brings extensive knowledge and experience to the vascular
chief position.
Dr. Choi completed vascular surgery fellowship at the MedStar Washington Hospital
Center and Georgetown University in Washington, DC. Before joining Downstate, he was
a vascular surgeon at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center and Assistant Professor
in the Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy at Baylor College of
Medicine.
Since coming to Downstate, Dr. Choi has successfully led the limb-salvage program
reducing amputation rates for Brooklyn patients. He developed the Pulmonary Embolism
Response Team (PERT) and leads the multidisciplinary management of pulmonary embolisms
at Downstate. Dr. Choi is the head of the Surgical Quality Improvement Initiative,
and his leadership resulted in Downstate Department of Surgery achieving meritorious
outcomes for surgical patient care in all cases as recognized by the National Surgical
Quality Improvement Program.
