SUNY Downstate College Of Nursing Ranked Among Best Nursing Programs In New York State

Brooklyn, NY— SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University’s College of Nursing, has been named among the top nursing programs in New York State, ranking #13 overall, by the Nursing Schools Almanac, a powerful online resource for aspiring nurses.

“It’s an honor to have this incredible program recognized for its outstanding curriculum and hard-working faculty, students, and graduate nurses who serve Brooklyn, New York City, and our extended communities,” said Downstate president Wayne J. Riley, M.D. “This designation is a testament to our unparalleled academic health sciences programs and will help us continue to draw interest from some of the most talented students across the country.”

Each year, the Nursing Schools Almanac conducts a detailed assessment of over 3,000 nursing schools nationwide. Institutions are ranked by their academic prestige, program breadth and depth, and student success on the nursing licensure exam which is used by all state boards of nursing across the United States.

The Nursing Schools Almanac recognized SUNY Downstate’s College of Nursing for being exceptionally well-prepared for licensure, with an NCLEX pass rate since 2008, of 90 percent, and for offering two baccalaureate options: a second-degree accelerated BSN and an RN-to-BSN completion program. Moreover, SUNY Downstate is recognized for being one of only four colleges in the state to offer an MSN in all four advanced practice roles: clinical nurse specialist, nurse practitioner, nurse anesthetist, and nurse midwife.

In addition to its state ranking, SUNY Downstate’s nursing program also ranks #44 overall in the Mid-Atlantic region and #96 nationwide among all public nursing schools.
