Pharmacy will serve University Hospital at Downstate patients, affiliated Downstate locations and will be open to the community

Brooklyn, NY— The University Hospital at Downstate (UHD) announced the grand opening of the State University of New York Outpatient Pharmacy, the first on-site outpatient pharmacy on campus. The Outpatient Pharmacy will begin operations on Tuesday, February 1, 2022.

The SUNY Outpatient Pharmacy will increase communication among prescribers, pharmacy staff, and patients and offer several services including personalized patient and family education on medication management, blister packing, therapy management services, immunization services, patient follow-up after discharge for any medication related questions or concerns, and employee discounts available to their faculty, staff, and students.

“With the new inhouse pharmacy, prescribers, and pharmacy staff can discuss and resolve issues before patients leave, assisting in the promotion of medication adherence,” said University Hospital at Downstate Chief Executive Officer David H. Berger, M.D., MHCM. “At a time when access to healthcare and pharmacy services is so critical, I am proud of the Department of Pharmacy as they make these vital services readily available to our patients.”

“We continue to improve and optimize medication-related outcomes in the patients we serve, and are committed to being a model leader in the delivery of pharmaceutical care,” said SUNY Downstate Pharmacy Director, Yuly Belchikov, BS, PharmD. “By creating this new option for the community, we can now provide easier access to pharmaceutical services for our patients and neighbors.”

The new outpatient pharmacy is run by Downstate’s Department of Pharmacy, which provides clinical and operational pharmacy services to inpatients at UHD, the Bay Ridge division, and associated on-site ambulatory clinics. They also collaborate with physicians, nurses, hospital administrators, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the safe and effective use of medications.

Pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and support staff will help operate the new 59 x 27-foot space of the Outpatient Pharmacy. Hours of operation are Monday to Friday from 9AM to 5PM. For more information, visit here.
