Scientific Journal Club (SJC)

The mission of the Scientific Journal Club (SJC) is to foster a collaborative and engaging environment where medical, nursing and public health students can critically analyze and discuss current scientific literature. Through this journal club, we aim to enhance the understanding of research methodologies, promote evidence- based practice, and encourage the development of critical thinking and lifelong learning skills among future healthcare professionals. Our club would like to introduce the process of journal club, which most residencies have, at an earlier stage to get students thinking about how to dissect and understand scientific and public health articles in the hopes of increasing our knowledge and awareness of current and new advances in the healthcare field.

Activities Include

  • Monthly Journal Club Meetings: Regular meetings where students present and discuss selected scientific articles, focusing on methodology, results, and clinical implications.
  • Guest Speaker Seminars: Inviting researchers, clinicians, and experts in various medical fields to discuss their work and provide insights into current research trends.
  • Collaborative Research Projects: Facilitating group research projects where students can apply what they learn from the journal club to real-world research questions.
  • Networking Events: Opportunities for students to connect with faculty, researchers, and peers who share an interest in scientific research and evidence-based medicine.
  • Interdisciplinary Discussions: Organizing joint meetings with other departments or clubs to discuss articles that intersect with various medical disciplines.
