Physicians for Human Rights at Downstate
SUNY Downstate Physicians for Human Rights (PHR) runs Downstate's Asylum Clinic, which connects medical students with physicians and other licensed health professionals to provide asylum seekers with medical and psychiatric evaluations. These evaluations may be used to document evidence of physical or mental trauma caused by past human rights abuses in court.
Downstate PHR also works to increase human rights-based discourse on campus, in order to promote the idea of health as a human right and to train socially- and globally-conscious future physicians.
