Fellowship Match Announcement | Dr. Pablo Alberto Cuartas Matches in Vascular Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine

May 31, 2026

pabloThe SUNY Downstate Department of Surgery congratulates Pablo Alberto Cuartas, MD, on his successful match into the Vascular Surgery Fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.

Dr. Cuartas’ parents emigrated from Manizales, Colombia, ultimately settling in Marion, Illinois, where Dr. Cuartas grew up with his three siblings. He studied Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology and Biology at Washington University in St. Louis before attending medical school at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he earned his medical doctorate and a master’s degree in bioethics. He was inspired to pursue surgery from a young age by his parents, Alberto and Claudia, and his grandparents.

During medical school and residency, Dr. Cuartas developed a strong interest in vascular surgery for its ability to relieve patients’ symptoms, afford them more time and opportunity, and support them through vascular and flow-related illness. Alongside his clinical work, Dr. Cuartas has participated in research programs through the iNSPIRe initiative at SUNY Downstate, which has provided a community of colleagues with similarly strong interests in scientific discourse and the resources needed to contribute to the medical and surgical literature.

Dr. Cuartas is committed to preserving the dignity and well-being of each of his patients, colleagues, and students. He believes firmly that great success is achieved through a growth mindset, teamwork, and the tireless pursuit of knowledge. He aspires to continue learning the art of vascular surgery and is excited to do so at Baylor.

Dr. Cuartas is grateful to his peers and mentors for their support throughout all stages of his education and is especially appreciative of the training he has received at SUNY Downstate.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Cuartas on this outstanding achievement.
