Apr 30, 2026
The Department of Surgery was honored to welcome George A. Sarosi, Jr., MD, FACS as our Grand Rounds speaker. In his presentation, “EPAs Beyond Engagement: Using
EPAs to Improve Resident Teaching and Learning,” Dr. Sarosi explored how entrustable professional
activities can serve as more than assessment tools, offering a thoughtful discussion
of how they can be used to strengthen resident education, improve feedback, and better
align teaching with progressive clinical responsibility.
His talk highlighted the growing importance of competency-based surgical education and emphasized the need for educational frameworks that are practical, meaningful, and directly relevant to day-to-day training. By focusing on how EPAs can be integrated into resident teaching and learning, Dr. Sarosi provided faculty and trainees with valuable insight into how surgical education can become more deliberate, structured, and effective, while still supporting autonomy and professional development.
Dr. Sarosi serves as Robert H. Hux Professor and Vice Chair of Education in the University of Florida Department of Surgery, where he has held educational leadership roles for many years. His longstanding focus on surgical education made for a highly relevant and engaging Grand Rounds session for our department.
