The SUNY Downstate Department of Surgery was honored to welcome Jose M. Prince, MD, Senior Vice President for Children’s Surgery and Pediatric Surgeon-in-Chief at Northwell Health, as our featured Grand Rounds speaker. In his lecture, “Life on the hyphen: Surgeon,” Dr. Prince delivered a timely and impactful discussion on surgical leadership, the realities of firearm violence, and the profound ripple effects on patients, families, and care teams. He emphasized the importance of advocacy, preparedness, and multidisciplinary collaboration in trauma care, and reflected on his experience featured in Netflix’s Emergency NYC, offering a candid look into high-acuity surgical practice.
