Becomes the Only Full-Time Fellowship-Trained Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Surgeon in Brooklyn
Brooklyn, NY - Jaime A. Uribe, MD, has been named assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery and director of the Foot and Ankle Service in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation Medicine at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University. Dr. Uribe specializes in foot and ankle surgery, degenerative foot disorders, diabetic foot disease, total ankle replacement, and advanced reconstructive techniques.
A native of Colombia, Dr. Uribe received his medical degree from Javeriana University in Bogota in 1984 and trained there in orthopaedic surgery. After completing his fellowship at the renowned Union Memorial Foot and Ankle Center in Baltimore, Maryland, Dr. Uribe returned to Colombia as the chief of foot and ankle surgery at El Bosque University in Bogota. He also served as the foot and ankle coordinator for the Reina Sofia Clinic and Organización Sanitas Internacional. In Colombia, he acquired certifications in public health management and in acupuncture and Chinese traditional medicine before returning to the United States.
Dr. Uribe is an expert in degenerative foot disorders and advanced reconstructive techniques, specializing in the medical and surgical treatment of acquired deformities, post-traumatic changes, and sports injuries, as well as vascular and diabetic foot diseases. He is the author of numerous basic science and clinical publications, abstracts, and presentations in the foot and ankle literature. His use of state-of-the-art techniques, such as total ankle replacement and allograft reconstruction, coupled with advanced wound- healing techniques, provides new options for patients who previously were destined for fusion or amputation.
Dr. Uribe is the only fellowship-trained foot and ankle orthopaedic surgeon working full-time in Brooklyn. The Foot and Ankle Service at SUNY Downstate includes orthopaedic surgeons, podiatrists, orthotists, physical therapists, and wound-care specialists, as well as a gait and motion analysis laboratory.
