Cardiothoracic Radiology

The CT imaging section at SUNY-HSC Downstate Medical Center covers all aspects of cardiothoracic imaging and intervention, in conjunction with the section of Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology.

All aspects of plain film chest and cardiac imaging are discussed, with anatomy, pathology and physiology correlation.

CT, both enhanced and non-enhanced is done as well as high resolution CT on six CT scanners in three institutions. A 64 multislice, 64 slices per acquisition scanner has been in use since 2007.

CT pulmonary angiography and chest venography as well as CT arteriography are done, with the use of work stations for multiplanar reconstructions and reformatting. Correlation with catheter angiography is also performed.

The evaluation of adrenal masses is performed in conjuntion with chest scanning.

Magnetic Resonance scanning of the chest and heart with cardiac gating is performed for the evaluation of congenital and acquired cardiac abnormalities. MR angiography is also performed, especially if the patient cannot tolerate a CT scan.
