Institutional Affiliation Agreements
When resident education occurs in a participating institution, SUNY-DOWNSTATE retains responsibility for the quality of that GME experience and authority over the residents’ activities at other sites.
Master Affiliation Agreements which are renewed no less frequently then every 5 years must exist between SUNY Downstate and all of our major participating sites. Program Letters of Agreement for each residency program are to be appended to the Master Agreements for all sites providing required education. These letters must include:
- Names and titles of the faculty/officials at the participating institution or facility that will assume administrative, educational and supervisory responsibility for the resident(s); Participating affiliate faculty must maintain faculty appointments with the SUNY Downstate College of Medicine.
- An outline of the competency based educational goals and objectives for rotations or activities within the participating institutions;
- Duration of the educational program with the period of assignment of the residents to the participating institution; may include the financial arrangements with information regarding resident support including insurance and benefits;
- A statement specifying the participating site’s responsibilities for teaching, supervision, and formal evaluation of the residents' performance;
- The policies and procedures that govern the residents' education while rotating to the participating institution.
