The Department of Surgery was honored to host Patricia Sylla, MD, FACS, FASCRS as the guest speaker for Grand Rounds. Dr. Sylla spoke eloquently on guidelines and new operative alternatives in the treatement of complicated diverticulitis. Her work has significantly informed the establishment of guidelines for care in colorectal surgery, particularly the management of uncomplicated and complicated diverticulitis.
Dr. Sylla is the System Chief of Colon and Rectal Surgery for the Mount Sinai Health System. In this role, Dr. Sylla coordinates the colon and rectal surgery program across all eight hospitals within the Mount Sinai Health System. Dr. Sylla also holds key leadership positions in several national societies, most notably as President of Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES).
