The Department of Radiation Oncology offers a broad range of oncologic services. The radiation therapy facilities offer the latest high energy linear accelerator with external beam low and high energy x-rays and electrons, in addition to interstitial and intracavitary therapy, including prostate implants. Radiosurgery is available with the use of intensity modulated radiation therapy. This allows intensive radiation to be delivered to brain tumors, as well as other parts of the body. State-of-the-art simulator and 3-D computerized dosimetry round out the treatment planning assuring the delivery of 3D conformed radiation therapy. Services are coordinated with chemotherapy and surgery, and are performed by an expert staff of physicians, physicists, radiation technologists and nurses. The department has a multimodality approach to the patient's treatment, cooperating in management with the referring physicians and other oncologists involved in the patient's treatment to assure integrated care. Referring physicians receive regular reports indicating the proposed treatment and the results achieved during and after the course of treatment. Comprehensive nursing care, including nutrition and social work services, is a significant part of every patient's care. All physicians are board certified.
