Eyelid turned in, eyelid turned out
Entropion, ectropion
With aging, the lower eyelid can become lax and either turn in or turn out causing irritation and discomfort.
Ectropion – outward turning of the lower eyelid. This exposes the back surface of the eyelid and the eye to air which worsens dry eye and can cause blurry vision, burning eyes, red eyes, red eyelids and tearing.
Entropion – inward turning of the lower eyelid. This causes the eyelashes to rub against the eye and leads to severe irritation, tearing, redness and sometimes decreased vision and scarring of the cornea.
