Blind Painful Eye

There are unfortunate circumstances when an eye needs to be removed due to pain, infection, or trauma. The goal of eye removal surgery is to remove the source of pain or infection and reconstruct the eye socket so a prosthetic eye may be worn. There are two types of eye removal surgery, enucleation and evisceration, and your surgeon will discuss which option would be most appropriate. A prosthetic eye can typically be made 6 weeks after surgery to match the good eye for symmetry.
