Nurses Week 2026: The Power of Nurses
By Office of the President | May 6, 2026

In celebration of National Nurses Week 2026, we recognize the invaluable contributions nurses make in healthcare and in all of our lives—while also acknowledging the real-life challenges they face each day.
This year’s theme, “The Power of Nurses,” shines a light on the extraordinary work our nurses bring to Downstate and communities around the world. Their impact is felt in every patient interaction, every moment of compassion, and every step toward better health outcomes.
Downstate continues to rise as a leader during a national nursing shortage, advancing strategies that strengthen the workforce and ensure care stays close to home. Through legislative advocacy, innovative partnerships, and strategic workforce investments, we are shaping a future where nurses are supported, valued, and empowered.
Our commitment begins in the classroom. The College of Nursing prepares the next generation of nurse leaders through rigorous academic programs, immersive clinical training, and an inclusive learning environment. Our students are equipped to deliver high-quality, equitable care to the richly diverse communities we proudly serve—especially in Central Brooklyn.
At Downstate, nurses are the heartbeat of healing. Their excellence, empathy, and professionalism uplift every patient and family, advancing our mission of health equity and transformative care. We honor our nurses and nursing students for their extraordinary service.
Please join the entire Downstate community as we celebrate our nurses and nursing students.
