What to Bring

Check

Other than personal effects, clothing, and a positive attitude about the upcoming academic year, we suggest that you consider brining the following items with you to the residence halls:

  • Shower Curtain/Hooks
  • Shower caddy to hang above shower head, shower shoes, a bathrobe, and a tooth brush holder
  • Bathroom rugs, toilet paper and a toilet brush for cleaning
  • A shower spray/cleaner — it keeps showers cleaner, longer, which saves you time!
  • Cleaning supplies such as a broom, dust pan, air fresheners, etc…
  • A cart for when you shop for groceries
  • Kitchen supplies such as pots (9" in diameter or less), pans, utensils, a drawer organizer, food, water filter, and a coffee maker
  • Laundry detergent, fabric softener and a laundry bag or basket
  • Small garbage can and liners
  • Drawer liners for dressers (we do not allow contact paper)
  • Hangers and a full length mirror
  • Fun tac or push pins for hanging posters — we discourage the use of nails and screws
  • A small first aid kit — You never know when you will need a band aid!
  • A small tool kit that includes an Allen wrench — You never know when you will need to assemble something
  • Ear plugs — just in case you get a snoring roommate or like things really, really quiet
  • An alarm clock
  • A few incandescent light bulbs — no greater than 90 watts
  • Carpet — 6' x 9' is best, but no larger than 9' X 12' — standard rooms on the 2nd floor of 811 and the 3rd floor of 825 already have carpeting, so you will not need a carpet if you live on these floors
  • Oscillating fan — Air conditioners are prohibited without medical documentation
  • Your favorite pillow(s)
  • A duffle bag for working out at the gym and a lock for a locker
  • Studio and standard rooms — extra long twin sheets 36" x 80", one bedroom rooms — full sheets — you may also want a mattress cover for either mattress size
  • Television or stereo — If you have been assigned a roommate, discuss these items together
  • Telephone with telephone cable
  • An additional lamp for your desk or room
  • A small bookcase
  • Plastic tubs for storage underneath your bed
  • A bathing suit for use in the Student Center pool
  • Laptop or PC with hard wired and wireless Internet adapters
  • Printer for your PC or laptop
  • Surge protector for appliances
  • Loose leaf binders for class work and transcripts
  • RJ-45 cable for hard wired Internet Access
  • Co-axial cable for your television
  • Small dust buster for your room or apartment

What NOT to Bring

Cross

We ask that you leave the following items at home as they are not permissible in the Residence Halls:

  • Air conditioners — Air conditioners are prohibited without medical documentation, consult the Student Handbook for guidelines
  • Microwaves — Microwaves are already in all studio and one bedroom apartments, and there are common area microwaves on the 2nd and 3rd floors of both buildings
  • Firearms, fireworks, or weapons of any kind
  • Halogen lamps, incense or candles
  • Pets — Sorry, only fish in a tank smaller than 10 gallons are allowed and they must be registered. Consult the Student Handbook for details
  • Plant hooks or other items that affix to the ceiling
  • Furniture — With the exception of bookcases, rooms are fully furnished. There is one mattress, bed, desk, and dresser/student and one lamp/room
  • Over the door hooks — These are permissible, but usually do not fit. Save a few bucks and leave them home
