MHA Practicum & Capstone

The Practicum and Capstone course is a critical component of the Master of Health Administration (MHA) curriculum, providing students with the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge and competencies in a real-world healthcare setting. This structured, supervised, and evaluated field-based experience allows students to engage meaningfully with healthcare organizations and address complex administrative, operational, and strategic challenges.

Designed to enhance both foundational and concentration-specific health administration competencies, the Practicum and Capstone supports students in exploring their professional interests, developing leadership skills, and advancing their long-term career goals. It also reinforces key domains such as health systems knowledge, communication, strategic planning, financial management, and ethical leadership—essential areas for successful health administrators.

The course emphasizes community and organizational engagement, encouraging students to work collaboratively with healthcare institutions and stakeholders to address pressing needs that impact organizational effectiveness and community health. Each student is expected to complete project-based deliverables aligned with the host organization’s goals, contributing value while gaining practical experience.

This 3-credit course is mandatory for all MHA students, graded on a Pass/Fail basis, and serves as both a culminating academic requirement and a bridge to professional practice in the field of health administration.
