Department of Surgery Hosts Thanksgiving Luncheon

The SUNY Downstate Department of Surgery hosted a Thanksgiving luncheon in the surgical conference room on Thanksgiving for surgery residents, faculty, and staff. Chief residents made schedule arrangements so that residents from all sites could attend the celebration.   

It was a wonderful event to reflect on and be thankful for the many accomplishments of the surgery department throughout the year. Several significant events included a successful residency match with an impressive 85% categorical female general surgery residents, first place resident and medical student research awards at the Association of VA Surgeons, multiple publications in journals including JAMA Surgery, chief resident matches into trauma, cardiothoracic surgery, oncology, and minimally invasive surgery, and the welcoming of five new surgery department faculty members, including a new program director.  

“This gathering serves as a humble and heartfelt expression of gratitude for the exceptional dedication and tireless commitment demonstrated by each member of our department,” said Dr. Kougias.
