The Department of Surgery proudly congratulates Dr. Omar Eldeib on his successful match into the Cardiothoracic Surgery Fellowship at the University of Miami/Jackson Health System. Originally from Egypt, Dr. Eldeib graduated as valedictorian of his class in 2019 from Alfaisal University Medical College and has shown an exceptional commitment to the field of surgery from an early age. Inspired by his father, a distinguished plastic surgeon, Dr. Eldeib’s passion for surgery was nurtured throughout his formative years, eventually leading him to pursue a career in surgery.

During his final years in medical school, Dr. Eldeib developed a keen interest in cardiothoracic surgery, captivated by the complexity and life-saving potential of the specialty. This passion was further solidified during his residency, where he encountered multiple unique and challenging cases of cardiothoracic trauma. Alongside his clinical work, Dr. Eldeib has been actively involved in research, contributing to advancements in surgical techniques  His research interests align closely with his clinical practice, focusing on innovations in cardiothoracic surgery and rare cases.

Dr. Eldeib is also deeply committed to medical education. His early research into the effectiveness of educational tools and elements used in medical textbooks, as well as his work on the domains of learning, aims at identifying the best ways to educate and teach aspiring medical students and surgeons. His contributions to this field have been presented at multiple international conferences. His dedication to mentoring younger trainees and advancing educational practices underscores his commitment to shaping the future of surgery. In fact, one of his primary goals for the rest of the year is to mentor junior residents, further fostering a culture of learning and excellence.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Eldeib is an avid diver and a licensed pilot, having earned his pilot’s license in 2024, highlighting his adventurous spirit and drive to master new skills. Looking ahead, Dr. Eldeib aspires to become an academic surgeon-scientist, blending his passion for surgery with a commitment to research and education.

The University of Miami/Jackson Health System program, where Dr. Eldeib has matched, is nationally and globally renowned for its outstanding cardiothoracic surgery care. The fellowship provides comprehensive training across a wide spectrum of subspecialties, including thoracic surgery, congenital cardiac surgery, adult cardiac surgery, and cardiac transplant surgery. Dr. Eldeib will have the opportunity to practice and refine his skills at several prestigious institutions, including Jackson Memorial Hospital/Holtz Children’s Hospital, UHealth Tower—a University of Miami Hospital and Clinics Facility—and the Bruce W. Carter Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

This fellowship marks a significant milestone in Dr. Eldeib’s journey, reflecting both his past achievements and his potential to contribute to the future of cardiothoracic surgery.
