Dermatopathology Fellowship

ACGME-accredited SUNY Downstate / Dermpath Diagnostics, White Plains and the Ackerman Academic of Dermatopathology

The mission of our fellowship in dermatopathology is to prepare and train future dermatopathologists to be leaders in the field. Under the supervision of Drs. Edward Heilman and Jason Cohen, this one-year ACGME accredited fellowship program exposes trainees to all aspects of dermatopathology - from routine cases to challenging consultations. Dermpath Diagnostics, White Plains receives approximately 333,330 specimens annually from all parts of the globe. It is staffed by both Dermatology and Pathology trained Dermapathologists, including an expert in Pediatric Dermatopathology, Dr. Adnan Mir. In addition to the superior education and case exposure, fellows have substantial opportunities for publications.

The fellowship is a combined training program with the State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate Health Sciences University, giving fellows exposure to hospital-based dermatopathology in an urban setting. For pathology trained fellows, time is also spent in high-volume ambulatory clinics at Kings County Hospital and SUNY Downstate in an effort to provide clinicopathologic correlation. For those already trained in dermatology, hands on experience in the pathology laboratory, including specimen process/grossing, learning histology techniques, and participating in daily sign-out enhances dermatopathology understanding and skills.
