Student Travel Grants

The student's research work and presentation must be supervised by a sponsor on the Downstate faculty, or a comparable biomedical institution.

The work must be accepted for a poster or platform presentation at the meeting, and abstracted in the journal or other proceeding of the sponsoring organization.

The reimbursement of up to $800 may go toward economical transportation, hotel accommodations for one (1) night (up to $350), food on the day of your presentation (up to $70), and conference registration fees (up to $350), Printing costs for posters are not included. If your request is over the maximum award possible, you will be responsible for covering the overage cost. You are encouraged to still apply, regardless of the total amount of funding you need.

Students are eligible for one (1) Student Travel Grant (STG) per academic year. The academic year eligibility runs from August (Fall Semester) through June (Spring Semester.)

If you receive a STG between during the Fall Semester, you are not eligible again until the next academic year that starts the following August. If you receive a  STG during the Spring Semester, you are eligible again at the start of the new academic year.

Students should address a cover letter to Dr. Richard Sadovsky and email it to alumni@downstate.edu. The cover letter must include the student's name, name of meeting, date, location and name of the paper/abstract. The application must be submitted one (1) month prior to attending the conference or within five (5) business days of acceptance.

Students receive their reimbursement after the conference and may be required to present at an appropriate meeting.

Funds are limited, and awarded competitively. Because the grant is meant to help students present their own original research, it is generally allocated to only one student per presentation. *If multiple students are co-authors on a project, EACH student must submit their own individual application* It is at the discretion of our committee if multiple students will be approved for the same research project presentation.
