A Message from the Editor of Alumni Today and AlumNews
Our reunion this past year was fabulous. The scientific program was extremely well attended and the presentations will appear in this fall edition of Alumni Today.
Our goal for the upcoming year is to raise additional funds for tuition scholarships as we are looking forward to giving more scholarships to medical students. The cost of tuition, room and board for a year now exceeds $50,000. Most students graduate with debts in excess of $145,000.
I am really proud to be a member of this organization. We are a vital part of Downstate. In addition to providing scholarships, the Alumni Association runs two mentoring programs for students in conjunction with the Dean's office, a white coat ceremony for incoming students, research scholarships, Match Day celebration for seniors, funding for student poetry and art magazines, and many other student activities.
We have a very active Board of Managers and Board of Trustees who are devoted to our mission to help students, encourage research, and plan for our annual reunions. I would encourage all alumni to join, contribute and become involved. We have a wonderful past and look forward to even more success in our school and in our association in the future.
As always, I hope to hear from you with your comments and suggestions.
