Reach Out and Read

In 2006, The Children's Hospital at Downstate initiated the nationwide literacy initiative, Reach Out and Read.

Children seen for well childcare visits receive an appropriate book from their physician to encourage the habit of reading at an early age.

Books are distributed to children 6 months to 5 years of age.
