General Information

General Routine Procedures: Venipuncture

The intended recipient and the blood sample shall be identified by name and medical record number at the time of collection. The sample should be labeled and signed at bedside / collection site. Physicians, nurses, physicians’ assistants, nurse practitioners, medical students, phlebotomists and other appropriately trained and certified individuals may collect blood samples. Blood samples shall be submitted in stoppered tubes, each identified with a firmly attached label bearing at least the recipient’s first and last names, medical record number or social security number, where applicable, and the date of sample collection. The person drawing the sample must sign and indicate the time on the Blood Sample label.

Newborn Screening:

The Venipuncture service facilities Newborn Screening Testing for metabolic deficiencies by collecting blood samples as required by the guidelines provided by the New York State Department of Health in specified Nursing Stations.

Phlebotomy Service

The Outpatient Laboratory Services provide Specimen Collection Services not limited to UHB customers.

Hours of Operation:

Monday, Friday 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM

NOTE: Patient's will be referred to Suite G on Saturdays for registration and specimen labels.
