Best known to many as Jaleesa Vinson from the groundbreaking television series A Different World, Dawnn shared a deeply personal and inspiring conversation about her Guyanese heritage, Brooklyn upbringing, extraordinary career in entertainment, and lifelong commitment to mentorship and service. 

During the discussion, Dawnn reflected on:

  • Growing up as the daughter of Guyanese immigrants in Brooklyn, and the values that shaped her life
  • Creating her own curriculum at the University of Miami and becoming the founder and first graduate of the university’s musical theater degree program
  • Co-writing the original A Different World theme song and learning the importance of self-advocacy early in her career
  • Her experiences in television, Broadway, music, voice acting, and animation, including Star Trek: Lower Decks, The Simpsons, Futurama, Karma’s World, Carmen Sandiego, Grey’s Anatomy, and Netflix’s Nemesis
