Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month 

The Diagnostic Medical Imaging Program celebrates Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month (MUAM) in October each year.  MUAM was established to create awareness of the role diagnostic medical sonographers play in the medical community, and to educate the public about medical ultrasound and its many uses in healthcare.

Diagnostic Medical Imaging Program students and faculty took to the floor to share their knowledge about the value of Sonography, providing SUNY Downstate students, faculty, staff and visitors with information and ultrasound trivia.

Phantom Scan-tom Event

Students created unique ultrasound phantoms that when scanned presented simulated pathologies such as masses and cysts.  This is a fun, creative and educational event that help students understand the role physics play in sonography.

Lambda Nu Induction Ceremony

Each year, the Diagnostic Medical Imaging Program hosts a Lambda Nu Induction Ceremony. Lambda Nu is the national honor society for the radiologic and imaging sciences. The Downstate Chapter, New York Pi, recognizes outstanding students who have demonstrated exemplary scholarship and dedication to their chosen profession.

On Wednesday, May 3, 2023, DMI senior students participated in the centerwide Annual Research Day event, where they had an opportunity to share the results of their sonography research with the Downstate commmunity.

DMI Advisory Board Meetings

As per the guidelines of the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHEP), the DMI Advisory Board is comprised of communities of interest that include sponsor administration, faculty, employers, physicians, students, graduates, and the public. Following CAAHEP Standards, the advisory board committee meets annually and is charged with assisting program and sponsor personnel with formulating and periodically revising appropriate goals and learning domains, monitoring needs and expectations, and ensuring program responsiveness to change.
