The Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) Program, established in 1972, has more than 50 years of excellence in sonographer education
and training. The program has consistently been a leader in the profession, graduating
highly skilled clinicians and educators who practice throughout the United States.
The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (www.caahep.og) upon the recommendation of the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS) and prepares students to sit for the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) examinations.
The DMS Program is housed within the School of Health Professions at SUNY Downstate
Health Sciences University, a major academic medical center serving more than 2.6
million residents of Brooklyn and Staten Island. Students benefit from the resources
of a comprehensive health sciences campus that includes the School of Health Professions,
College of Medicine, College of Nursing, School of Graduate Studies, School of Public
Health, and University Hospital. Despite being part of a large academic institution,
the program maintains small class sizes that foster personalized instruction, mentorship,
and close faculty-student interaction.
