Dean's Lecture Series
The idea for the SOHP Dean’s Lecture Series occurred during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was a way to help students understand more about how culture impacts healthcare within the broader national context of calls for social justice and racial equity that were pervasive at the time. Given this, the inaugural series focused on the topic of “Culture” with an emphasis on its role in healthcare service delivery and improving health equity.
The current goal for the SOHP Dean’s Lecture Series is to provide students in SOHP and other Downstate Health Sciences University (DHSU) schools/colleges with exposure to topics that will complement what they are already learning in their primary disciplines. Providing students with this additional content should assist them to be great clinicians upon graduation, and to also have the ability to be leading thinkers and influencers in their respective disciplines. Though the lecture series targets students, anyone at DHSU or in the greater Brooklyn and NYC communities can attend.
