Bootcamp Curriculum
The Bootcamp curriculum is offered during the 4 first consecutive Thursdays of July as an introductory experience that will jump start incoming first year residents to the world of surgery residency. It includes the following elements:
- Team Building Olympics – fun ‘get to know you’ team building tasks
- How to study lecture – ABSITE tips from our most successful senior residents
- Teaching Medical Students lecture – guidelines for participation and success with medical student teaching
- How to be a good Intern lecture – insights from successful PGY2 residents
- Intro to instruments and sutures – overview of names and uses of instruments and suture types most commonly used in surgery
- Professionalism Vignettes – discussion of different ethical situations
- Goal Setting – exercise and discussion of formulation and execution of goals
- Wellness Orientation – education of wellness, burnout, insights and resources
- Logging cases, procedures and hours
- Airway management – basics of intubation and airway management
- Handoffs Simulation – basics and practice for proficient patient sign out process
- When to call your Senior – high fidelity patient interaction with ‘Sim man’ for ER encounters with peer and faculty feedback
- Open 1 – basic knot tying and suturing intro
- Lap 1 – basic laparoscopic skills training to prepare for FLS
- Robot Orientation – introduction to our robotic curriculum with intro to online modules, bedside orientation and instruction
