Core Lecture Series for All Geriatric Medicine and Psychiatry Fellows

The seminar series in geriatric medicine and geriatric medicine is conducted weekly for 2 hours in live interprofessional learning sessions (see the above link for our current schedule). The main topics of discussion include:

Interprofessional Geriatrics Journal Club

In this joint fellowship conference, fellows are assigned a specific topic or review article to present to other trainees, attendings, and faculties from across the disciplines at SUNY Downstate. Following the presentation, the fellow is expected to give a short discussion outlining his/her level of understanding of the topic and raises areas of controversy or uncertainty. This interactive part of the presentation includes input by other trainees and faculty.

Additional conferences for psychiatry fellows

  • Clinical In-Patient Case Conference at Kingsboro Psychiatric Center (KPC): Presentation and discussion of diagnosis and management of patients admitted to inpatient geriatric psychiatry unit. 1 hour biweekly (with Dr. Casimir).
  • Inter-professional Geriatrics Case Conferences: Conducted monthly as part of the Brooklyn Initiative to Develop Geriatrics Education (BRIDGE) Program. Faculty from across the disciplines at SUNY Downstate are invited to participate in case conferences with the geriatrics fellows (live and via Zoom).  
  • Interdisciplinary Medicine Conference: Weekly case conferences and Grand Rounds at St Albans Extended Care Facility
  • Department of Psychiatry and Department Medicine Grand Rounds: Weekly grand rounds presentations by prominent academics from around the country
