Application Requirements

ERAS application

The ERAS residency application for Pediatrics (categorical or preliminary) must be complete with the following required items prior to the NRMP listing date:

  • Completed Common Application
  • Curriculum vitae (C.V.)
  • Medical school transcript
  • Medical school diploma (if available)
  • Medical school Dean's letter
  • At least three (3) letters of recommendation from physicians who have knowledge of your clinical performance (one may be a letter from the Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at your medical school)
  • USMLE transcript with Steps I and step II (if available) scores or COMLEX transcript
  • Personal statement providing information not found elsewhere in the application
  • Photograph (optional)
  • Any other information which may contribute to your candidacy

If you are not a graduate of a United States or Canadian medical school (LCME accredited), the following items are required:

  • ECFMG certification status
  • Clinical Skills Assessment result
  • Statement of citizenship and/or visa status or intention
  • Letters of reference for clinical experiences in the U.S. are highly desirable

Please be aware that in order to begin residency training at the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center's programs you must have U.S. citizenship, permanent residency or an acceptable active visa status (such as J-1 or immigrant status). If you receive a residency position but you are not able to comply with this requirement, the position will not be held for you beyond July 1 (unless an alternate start date was previously negotiated).
