Residency Training Program in General Pediatrics

Education is a cornerstone of our residency program. Our curriculum combines bedside teaching, case-based discussions, simulation, procedural training, and structured didactics to ensure residents develop the knowledge, clinical reasoning, procedural skills, and professionalism necessary to become exceptional pediatricians. Formal teaching is integrated into daily clinical activities through attending rounds, patient-centered discussions, and multidisciplinary collaboration. Our longitudinal didactic curriculum is systems-based, follows the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) Content Outline, and is designed to prepare residents for both independent practice and board certification.

In addition to our core didactic curriculum, residents participate in simulation-based education and hands-on procedural workshops throughout training. Simulation sessions include mock codes, pediatric and neonatal resuscitation, airway management, and other high-acuity clinical scenarios, allowing residents to strengthen their clinical skills, teamwork, communication, and leadership in a safe learning environment. Procedural workshops provide focused instruction and supervised practice in essential pediatric procedures, reinforcing technical skills and confidence before performing them in clinical settings. 

Our educational curriculum emphasizes evidence-based medicine, clinical reasoning, patient safety, quality improvement, advocacy, health equity, and lifelong learning. Through our Health Disparities Curriculum, residents explore the impact of social determinants of health, structural inequities, cultural humility, and health advocacy on pediatric outcomes. Residents are encouraged to actively participate in discussions, present cases, critically appraise the medical literature, and engage in scholarly activities throughout their training. 

One of the strengths of training at an academic medical center is the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues across multiple disciplines. Residents regularly participate in interdisciplinary conferences that foster collaboration among pediatricians, surgeons, radiologists, pathologists, obstetricians, and pediatric subspecialists.

This comprehensive educational experience equips our graduates with the clinical expertise, procedural competence, and leadership skills needed to excel in general pediatrics, hospital medicine, pediatric subspecialty fellowship training, and academic medicine.
