The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation Medicine has long played an integral role in the education of medical students at SUNY Downstate Medical Center.  Our faculty and residents, many of whom are past graduates of SUNY Downstate College of Medicine, are dedicated educators and mentors in the field with years of experience and vast knowledge of their subspecialty field.

The department offers two and four-week electives to students that cover all aspects of orthopaedics, including both operative and non-operative rotations. For SUNY Downstate students who rotate through the department during their 3rd year of medical school, rotations are evaluated on a Pass/Fail basis while all 4th year rotations are evaluated on the Pass/High Pass/Honors basis.

SUNY Downstate Students: Please apply directly through the department.

LCME Medical School Students: SUNY Downstate participates in VSAS; all students are required to apply for outside rotations using this system.
