Program Director's Message

We thank you for your interest in our program at the SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University. Our program comprises two hospitals: Kings County Hospital Center, which has about 4000 deliveries annually and serves the diverse population of Brooklyn, and the Downstate University Hospital, a major referral center of Brooklyn with about 2300 deliveries annually.

We have a full-time faculty of approximately thirty, representing all the subspecialties of our discipline. The clinical experience is vast and varied. We have an approved fellowship in gynecologic oncology. Opportunities for research during the residency program are extensive.

We consider obstetrics and gynecology to be primary preventive health care for women, and our educational program is so constructed. We have semiweekly lectures on topics including aspects of health care for women of all ages, and our continuity clinic provides residents with the opportunity for long-range, comprehensive care of their patients.

We are accepting applications for the next academic year. Six first-year residents will be selected. The program is non-pyramidal. Please include with your application a minimum of two letters of recommendation, a 2x2 photograph, medical school transcript, Dean's letter, and National Board scores, or the equivalent. Applications are only accepted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).

Sincerely,

Angeliki Papavlassopulos, MD, MBA, FACOG
Residency Program Director
