Establish Your Own Fund
Major gifts provide an opportunity for alumni to make a meaningful and ongoing source of support for the Alumni Association. One way to do this is to establish a named fund. Gifts can be given in honor of special occasions such as anniversaries and birthdays, or a milestone like your 25th or 50th Medical School Reunion. Alumni can also establish class funds earmarked for a wide range of activities including scholarships, research fellowships, etc.
More than 125 alumni have established named funds. For a $25,000 donation (which is payable over five years) alumni can underwrite a new named fund with a general or designated purpose. This could be used to establish an endowment to support various programs including tuition scholarships, research fellowships, the White Coat Ceremony and the Health Care in Developing Countries Elective, to name just a few.
Alumni who underwrite tuition scholarships or research fellowships have the opportunity to meet or speak with the student whom they support. Some alumni maintain ongoing communication with these students throughout their years at Downstate and beyond.
