Working For A Better Community
University Police/Public Safety Department is a professional campus police agency whose purpose is to provide for the safety
of members of the Health Science Center community and the security of all property
on campus. Our mission is to ensure a safe, problem-free environment for students,
faculty, staff and visitors, and to enforce University policies and applicable State
and local laws. The Department also ensures the efficient utilization and equitable
distribution of available parking spaces and provides transportation and escort services
for our community.
University Police/Public Safety Department staff patrols the campus 24 hours a day,
seven days a week with personnel assigned to all open entrances/exits and buildings within the complex.
We also provide motorized patrols of the surrounding public streets as an adjunct
to the New York City Police Department. Our communications center (270-2626) is likewise
staffed around the clock to provide information and assistance as needed. There is
a network of emergency telephones (red) conveniently located throughout the Health
Science Center. In addition, there is also a network of panic alarms located at various
places including the corridors, laboratories, rest rooms and on-call rooms. Both the
red phones and the panic alarms are linked directly with the University Police/Public
Safety Department and they are monitored 24 hours a day to ensure quick response to
all emergencies.
The operational offices are located on the first floor of University Hospital in room A1-339 while the administrative
offices are located in room 1-85A of the Basic Science Building.
Israel Maldonado, Chief of University Police, is responsible for all aspects of our department. His
office phone is (718) 270-4373.
