Translational Program of Health Disparities Research Training (Transport) Symposium

Each year the Office of Diversity Education and Research and the Brooklyn Health Disparities Center (BHDC) co-sponsor a health disparities symposium to educate and update the community on the progress of eliminating disparities in health care. During this event, clinicians and academicians share best practices, research findings and innovative programs. This year’s speakers included:

  • Dr. Carla Boutin-Foster, Associate Dean for Diversity Education and Research
  • Dr. Moro Salifu, Director of the BHDC
  • Dr. Carlos Pato, Co-PI and Co-Director of the Institute for Genomic Health
  • Dr. Pamela Straker, Director of Operations at the BHDC
  • Dr. Mark Stewart, Dean of the School of Graduate Studies
  • Dr. Terrence Blackman, Dean of the School of Science, Health and Technology, Medgar Evers College –City University of New York
  • Dr. Larry Schell, Director for the Center for the Elimination of Minority Health Disparities at University at Albany –State University of New York

Health Disparities Grand Rounds Lecture

Dr. Marilyn Fraser, the CEO of the Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health and the PI of the Brooklyn Health Disparities Center co-sponsored a talk with the Office of Diversity Education and Research on health disparities during Otolaryngology Grand Rounds.

Dr. Fraser provided a brief overview of health disparities and social determinants of health with examples of conditions facing a high prevalence of disparities. She also discussed the measurement of disparities and tangible solutions for decreasing disparities through community engagement, research, and education.
