Successful Joint Commission Triennial Survey Completed

Congratulations to the University Hospital at Downstate staff for completing the Joint Commission Triennial Survey. A team of surveyors with extensive experience as caregivers and healthcare professionals thoroughly evaluated UHD’s main hospital and all off-site locations during a four-day period. The Joint Commission reviewers commented on the great culture and teamwork and were particularly impressed by the faculty and staff engagement; improvement from our last survey showed substantial progress.

Thank you for preparing for this survey and exemplifying our mission at UHD.

Interviewing Techniques 101

Wendy Williams Class

A group of SOPH MPH candidates got together in Downstate’s TV studio to conduct mock interviews as part of their Communication Skills for Public Health class, led by Wendy Williams, Ph.D., Director of Pedagogical Advancement and Evaluation, and Clinical Assistant Professor. The students practiced being interviewed on T.V., responding to in-depth questions as part of an interview process where they discussed their projects at length.

The students and their projects are Wilbert Pacheco, Coronary Artery Disease; Victor Reid, Improving Asthma Management Intervention among African American Children; Kimberly Steger, The Case for Improving Environmental Health Communications to People of Color, and Donalee Thomas, Colorectal Cancer in African Americans.

The session was filmed by Adesiji Awoyinko, Creative Video Producer/Editor, Office of Communications & Marketing, so the students could later see how they responded to questions. Dawn S. Walker, MPA, Vice President of Communications & Marketing, led the interview session.

Kudos to these students for conquering their fears of public speaking!
